Arrival And Check-In

  • Accessible designated pick-up and drop-off areas are available in front of the Airport Terminal Building.
  • Designated parking spaces for persons with disabilities are located in the parking lot near the Airport Terminal Building entrances. A valid parking placard from the NWT Disabilities Council or a valid parking placard from another jurisdiction is required in order to park in these designated parking spaces.   • Both entrances of the Airport Terminal Building are equipped with slow revolving doors and automatic doors.
  • Lowered check-in counters are also available.

Personal Assistance

  • Passengers who require assistance in boarding the aircraft or require wheelchair assistance are requested to contact their respective airline to make the necessary arrangements.
  • Passengers who require the assistance of a non-flying escort to be permitted on the tarmac to assist them in boarding are requested to contact their respective airlines to make the necessary arrangements.
  • Electric cart services are not available.
  • Passengers with hearing disabilities who require assistance in receiving flight notifications, such as boarding announcements, are requested to notify airline staff at check-in. Flight arrivals and departures are also available on a number of screens in the airport or on the airport’s website.
  • The Yellowknife Seniors Society (Arctic Ambassadors Program) is available to assist with wayfinding information.

TTY Phones

  • The Yellowknife Airport does not maintain a TTY line. However, TTY services are offered by the NWT Disabilities Council, who can relay messages to airport staff. To access this service, travellers must first phone the Council’s main number at (867) 873-8230 to advise that a TTY message is being sent and then wait three minutes before dialing the Council’s TTY line at (867) 920-2674.

Wayfinding For People With Visual Impairments

  • Tactile signage is installed throughout the building.

Relieving Areas For Service Animals

  • A designated service animal relief area is provided outside the main terminal across the street from the revolving door at the Departure area.

Accessible Local Transportation Serving The Airport

  • Accessibility services are not available from the car rental companies based at the Airport Terminal Building. However, wheelchair assistance from the terminal to a wheelchair accessible taxi (Handyvan) is available.
  • Wheelchair accessible taxis are available at the Airport Terminal Building.
